We stayed at cabin #4 to ge rest, recharge our batteries, and have some quiet. We adopted two special needs children, and I am a 100% disabled veteran. The cabin’s heat was out, the beds were like sleeping on bricks, the water was so cloudy that you couldn’t see through it, and the water stunk. The experience was so bad that I ended up having a seizure so we left early to come home. I woke up today being accused of trying to not pay our bill, and being threatened that one of them was going to come knock on my door at home to get payment.
I have been a businesswoman since 2006 owning my own business. I have never spoken to a customer in such a way, nor will I ever.
The woman who owns the cellphone you call upon arriving was the one sending threatening texts.
We had thought about purchasing a cabin out there as we are a big fishing family. However after driving around the facility half of it looks nice while the rest looks like a bunch of people just threw all their garbage in their yards.
It seems like this establishment is more worried about money than taking care of the property and their guests.
It’s a shame because it could be a nice place.
After 4 years of having a permanent site here, I am changing my review. I originally gave it 5 stars. Since then the place has become overcrowded. Campers and cabin crammed together. Woods torn out to cram more campers in. Beach is usually too packed. Kids flying around on golf carts and side by sides almost causing accidents. Noisy people partying all night. No tranquility nor privacy. Can't enjoy any of the activities we use to because of overcrowding. Paying way too much money for something we don't get to enjoy anymore. They are catering to the rich and once they get your money, they don't care. Been waiting 4 years for services promised and never rendered. This is our last summer there.
If you don't have a boat don't bother, there's some big fish but in places you aren't allowed to fish.
I camp at giant goose ranch. Beautiful place awesome fishing
There are different kinds of customers, RV'ers for the weekend, people that have built cabins there, and longterm RV''ers.
I felt the Hermans are super friendly when trying to get you to buy. but then they have horrible customer service afterwards.
they make it difficult to sell your cabin.
the facebook page does not allow any complaining (you will be kicked out of the facebook group if you complain)
our kids did not find it entertaining. There is a beach and if you own a side-by-side you can drive around in the woods....and if your kids fish it is good for that. the kids enjoyed feeding the goats a few times
but the 'horses' are to look at ...we never saw someone riding them. (kind of a bait and switch kind of feeling).
we did rent the pontoon boat and the hermans were helpful with that.
there is one phone that you are supposed to text if you have a problem. but the person who is on there is grumpy...probably because a) they have a permanent job as a Herman family member b) they wont tell your name....so no accountability
I would suggest renting 4 times and see if your kids actually get into fishing....sure they like it once...but twice....well that isnt a guarantee...
This is a nice place to camp, but my main problem is these young kids and I mean young driving golf carts unsupervised, the people are nice and there’s a lot to do but this place is all about money, the roads are terrible, pot holes are bad. I been here a year, I like it but I just don’t get why it’s so expensive
Private lake with some very cute homes. Felt very Scandinavian.
This is an awesome place it has like 57 lakes it's about 40 outside of Peoria
